Program Synopsis

Sheldon Academy will be open and available for students from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays. On Wednesday the lab will be open at 8:45 a.m. due to staff meetings. Students will utilize the program on a time schedule convenient to their needs rather than an assigned time slot.

In addition, Sheldon Academy has limited day class offerings in language arts, social studies, and math.

Mission Statement

Sheldon Academy is dedicated to providing students with an alternative learning environment that continues their education in a meaningful way. Each Sheldon Academy student will be provided with opportunities in skill development, tutoring, remediation and skill enhancement using the Plato learning system or other available resources particular to the student’s learning needs.

Online Learning Systems

The Plato learning system is an interactive online computer program covering subjects in math and science.

Apex Online learning is also available for a limited number of students.

Night School

Students in 11th and 12th grades will need to attend ALL seminars in each core area that they have contracted for in order to earn credit. Seminars will be taught on a specific evening each week during a nine week term. Sheldon Academy will only be available to 11th and 12th grade students during the first semester but will be open to sophomores during the second semester on a space available basis.

Study Center

ER Study Center is open to all students, but priority is given to freshmen and sophomores.

Policies

Sheldon Academy is a reference-based system. Counselors recommend students to enroll in our programs.

How to be a successful Sheldon Academy Student:

  1. Attend all classes– this usually means 8-9 classes per 9 weeks. This is not a huge commitment when you will be earning .5 credit.
  2. Complete the outside assignments required to earn the .5 credits.
  3. Please communicate via e-mail, phone, or in person if due to a personal crisis you miss a class. Please check in with the teacher before the next scheduled class to pick up the missed materials.
  4. Independent study classes require regular check ins with the supervising teacher
  5. If you are unable due to health or a personal or family crisis to complete the course work for a Sheldon Academy class, you have 9 weeks or the next term to fulfill the requirements before the Incomplete becomes a No Pass. Please be sure that your teacher is aware of the circumstances leading up to you needing the extension. Do not sign up for the same class over again, but rather complete the course work and earn your credit.
