ADORABLE PINS
FOR SALE AT THE HEALTH CENTER
We are selling
buttons/pins. There are 3 designs, which have been designed by students.
They are really cute. The cost is a minimum dollar donation to adults, (
more is welcome) and .25 cents for students. The students designed these
buttons to avocate for School-Based Health Centers. The money collected
goes toward the health center Medication Fund which covers prescription
costs for kids who can not afford medication.
SUICIDE
PREVENTION TRAINING A SUCCESS!
The Safe-Teen Suicide
Prevention Training was a success with about 50 persons attending. Many
important questions were asked and answered. The following question was
asked, but the answer was not immediately available. After researching the
topic the following was learned. See below. We look forward to seeing you
next year for the annual suicide prevention training.
Question: How likely is
a person to have major depression as an adult, if they've had it as a
teenager?
Answer: Studies,
(Lowinsohn, Rohde, Klein and Seeley, 1999) reveal that 45% of young adults
who were depressed as adolescents developed a major depressive disorder as
young adults. This compares to 18.5% of young adults who developed major
depression and had no previous history of having a major depressive
disorder.
Of those who did have
depression as a teenager, it was found that a recurrence of depression as
an adult was most likely in those persons who had severe or several
episodes of depression as a teenager.
The research (Lowinsohn,
Rohde, Seeley, Klein and Gotlib, 2003) did not reveal any significant
differences in academic, occupational or marital functioning or parental
status in young adults who were depressed as teens compared to young adults
who had no episodes of depression as teens.
