SELF-HARM SESSION: Eugene School District 4J is hosting a community talk with Dr. Tiffany Brown for parents and community members to learn more about helping children who exhibit signs of self-harm, such as cutting. The free parent information session, Cutting & Self-Harm: Suicidal & Non-Suicidal Self Injury, will be held on Monday, April 25, 6–7:30 p.m., in the Sheldon High School auditorium. Speaker Dr. Tiffany Brown, a licensed family therapist at the University of Oregon, will discuss the steps that parents can take if a child is cutting or engaging in other self-harming behavior, what it means, and where to seek help. This is one in a series of community events 4J has planned to address youth mental health and suicide prevention. Spanish and ASL interpretation provided.
SHELDON JUNIOR / SENIOR PROM: Prom is scheduled for Saturday, April 23 from 8 – 11 pm at the Graduate Hotel. Tickets are currently on sale at the Finance window through the afternoon of April 22. Price is $55 two / $30 one.
SHELDON COMMUNITY RESPONDER: A Sheldon Community Responder is a volunteer that responds to “alerts” sent by the 15th Night Coordinator for needs specific to SHS students that have not been met by internal school resources. These type of alerts would be for items such as clothing, shoes, small household items, food or bedding. A Sheldon Community Responder would receive a text message indicating a need. If the Responder can provide the need, they respond to the text message and work with the SHS Coordinator to secure and deliver the item. Contact Trista Neuman at Neuman_t@4j.lane.edu.
SCHEDULING: Dropping Classes: Friday, April 15th is the deadline for students to complete the Class Drop process with no mark on the transcript. Students who return completed drop forms on Monday, April 18th or later will earn a grade of WD (Withdraw). Drop forms are available with the school counselor. Students must obtain permission from parent/guardian and reach out to teacher before submitting a form. Please make sure that textbooks and/or materials are returned promptly. The student is responsible for attending classes until the result of the Class Drop is known, and the student sees the class removed from the schedule in StudentVue.
SHELDON THEATRE PRODUCTION: Sheldon Theatre presents Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! April 22, 29, and 30 at 7pm and April 23 and 24 at 2pm in the Sheldon High School Auditorium. Tickets are $7 students/seniors or $10 adults and available starting 60 minutes before each show. Discounted tickets ($5/$8) are available from cast and crew members through April 12th. Tickets will also be available through SchoolPay coming soon.
