Good Morning, Irish!
- Attention all juniors in U.S. Government & Civics this semester. If you would like to earn college credit, you will need to be enrolled in either Mr. Brancato or Ms. Youngblood's U.S. Government & Civics or AP Government class. Today is the last day to add a class.
- Students, a friendly reminder to please bring your laptops every day to school charged or bring the charger so you can charge the laptop in class.
- Hey Juniors and Seniors! Do you have a free 4th Period or 7th Period? Would you like to have a class to give you some extra credit and also some great office experience for your resumé? We are looking for TWO awesome students to join us in the Front Office as TAs for Semester 1. If you are interested, please see Cristal or Kristen in the front office as SOON as possible! The deadline to add a class is fast approaching and we would love to give the opportunity to some deserving students!
- Name change requests for the yearbook must be made by Dec. 1. The form can be found in the yearbook section under the student tab on the Sheldon website. - Sheldon Theatre’s Fall Play: The Best Bloody Baking Show, has an opening for a lead role: Patricia Posh. Patricia is one of two judges for the baking show. She is an elegant and glamorous British lady in her 50s. She has an exceptionally refined palette and aesthetic sensibility, yet she doesn’t mind a drink and a giggle now and then either. She is beloved by her fans who call themselves “The Patty Wagon.” Reach out to Mr. Cabrera for more information. Auditions will be held Friday the 19th.
- Sheldon’s Women in STEM Club is back! Come for snacks, a fun activity, and a chance to meet awesome people who love science, tech, engineering, and math. Everyone’s welcome so grab a friend and stop by today in room B5 during Lunch.
- Do you need leadership experience or community service hours, or want to serve your community and the world? Come to Interact Club in classroom B14 today to plan this year's project!
- September is Deaf Awareness Month. Additionally 09/22 - 09/28 is International Week of Deaf People (IWDP), and 09/23 is International Day of Sign Languages. Recommend the book
Haben: The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law by Haben Girma, as well as learning sign language from Deaf creators on social media, and checking out the variety of different types of sign language that align with different cultures and identities. This includes LSM for Mexican Sign Language, BASL for Black American Sign Language (with a deep cultural history behind the development of this sign language), Japanese Sign Language, Taiwanese Sign Language, and many more. There are approximately as many sign languages as there are spoken languages and cultures.
